What to expect<\/h1>\n
For each appointment Anna Johnson and Associates will have gained Veterinary Permission from your said vet as this is legally required by the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966. *Due to our good and well established relationship with Veterinary Practices this is never a problem.
\nWe shall allow 1 hour (at least!) to assess and treat the animal.<\/p>\n<\/div>

<\/span><\/div>During this assessment we shall:<\/h2>\n\n- Take a detailed history of your animal and the problem(s) you have asked us to assess.<\/li>\n
- Do a full gait analysis: ideally on a hard level surface. This comprises the animal moving in walk, trot, tight circles, rein back, square and if a horse, on the lunge if we feel this is necessary and ridden (again if we feel this is necessary).<\/li>\n
- Assess the animal stationary in a level\/square posture to assess for symmetry and conformation.<\/li>\n
- Palpate (feel) all over the animal for any abnormalities in muscle tone, pain response, hot\/cold.<\/li>\n
- Assess joint range of motion by taking the animal\u2019s limbs into various positions, and moving their neck and back to assess spinal mobility.<\/li>\n
- From this thorough assessment we can then establish if treatment is required and discuss with the owner a treatment plan. If the owner agrees with treatment plan:-<\/li>\n
- We will perform treatments to regain and restore mobility and function to the animal. If necessary we will leave written instructions of exercises and a rehabilitation programme to follow; as well as any therapeutic machines that we feel will benefit the animal on a more long term basis.<\/li>\n
- We will also advise if we feel another professional eg. Vet\/saddler should also assess the animal at this stage as communication with other professionals is routine and vital to gain the best result for the animal.<\/li>\n
- We shall review the animal again, if a follow up appointment is needed, usually within a month, although this will differ depending on the problems (if any) found, and will be discussed with each client.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
Treatment<\/h1>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>This will usually consist of a combination of \u201chands on\u201d techniques, electrotherapy, exercises and rehabilitation such as:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Joint manipulation\/mobilisation techniques.<\/li>\n
- Soft tissue release techniques such as deep massage and fascial release.<\/li>\n
- Reflex inhibition techniques using the animals natural reflexes to stimulate joint movement and soft tissue stretch.<\/li>\n
- Stretches (performed by physio) and then possibly to be done by the owner and similary exercises.<\/li>\n
- Electrotherapy – we commonly use; Ultrasound, Laser, PEME – Pulsed Electromagnetic Energy Muscle stimulation, TENS. – Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation<\/li>\n
- Rehabilitation programme such as: lungeing\/proprioceptive exercises\/strengthening exercises.<\/li>\n
- Treatment under sedation (sedation performed by the vet). The animal will be still standing but relaxed enough to allow deep release of soft tissue and therefore joint mobilisation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
